The social media site can help dogs find their owners, bring long lost loves together again, and hopefully, this time, reunite the owner of a found ring with the finger it belongs on.
The story of the ring started Monday when Poughkeepsie resident Elizabeth Harper posted a picture on Facebook of a ring she found in the parking lot of the Table Talk Diner in Poughkeepsie on Saturday.
Since then, the post has been shared almost 4,000 times, but still, no one has claimed the ring.
"I believe that there are still a lot of kind people in this world," Harper said. "Social media can be used for positive things too, such as a situation like this."
Harper, a local school teacher, thinks the ring may be a man's wedding band and would love to find the owner.
It has an inscription on the inside that reads "Not all who wander are lost." A quote from author J.R.R Tolkien in "Lord of the Rings," and also the lyrics to a Grateful Dead song "Lost Sailor," according to other posters.
The details on the ring are said to be what the Irish call a Claddagh ring which represents love, loyalty, and friendship, another poster wrote.
Harper is surprised by the number of shares and the interest: "I didn't really think that I did was anything special. I just did what was right. Hopefully, the owner of the ring gets it returned soon," she added.
If you know the ring's owner, let us know. Harper hopes this wandering ring isn't lost forever.
